(High Point, NC) The opening round of the Trans Am championship at Sebring International Raceway presented a number of challenges for the Silver Hare Racing team. Having had their pre-season testing plans wiped out because of weather, the crew worked even harder to develop the cars under competitive conditions. While team owners Maurice and Laura Hull admit there is obvious room for improvement, considering Sebring is one of the toughest tracks on the schedule, both were pleased with the team’s overall performance.
Making his Silver Hare Racing debut at Sebring International Raceway this past weekend, Michael Self started his Sinclair Oil Corporation TA2 Camaro from the eighth spot. Self ran as high as third before falling back to seventh mid-race. Attrition, including his Silver Hare teammate Tyler Kicera, promoted Self to fourth on a late race restart, where he ultimately finished.
“I’m definitely happy with a fourth-place finish my first time out with Silver Hare, but we know we have some work to do. We all fought a loose condition in one form or another throughout the weekend, so we’ll get to work on our balance and try to move forward and get on the podium at Road Atlanta. Maurice and Tyler both did a really nice job, with Maurice running in the top-half of the field, and Tyler competing for a podium spot before his mechanical issue. We have a good foundation from this weekend to continue building on.”
Silver Hare Racing team principle, Maurice Hull (Waukegan Farms, Sabelt Chevrolet Camaro) started the race from 20th position. Hull suffered minor body damage but still managed to race his way to a 13th-place finish.
Plagued by mechanical issues throughout the weekend, Tyler Kicera (Waukegan Farms, Sabelt Ford Mustang) started ninth and had climbed to fifth position midway through the race. On lap sixteen, Kicera suffered a fuel pump failure, forcing his retirement. Kicera was scored in 19th place.
Next up on the Trans Am schedule for the Silver Hare Racing team is a one-hundred-mile feature race at Road Atlanta in Braselton, GA on Sunday, March 28th.
