Co-Owners Maurice & Laura Hull

Maurice and Laura Hull are so much more than husband and wife. Since becoming a couple in 2003 and marrying in 2008, they have collaborated in a wide array of business ventures, including commercial real estate, tree farming, wildlife management, raising and showing quarter horses, and a championship-winning sportscar team.

A Greensboro native who earned his undergraduate degree at Wofford College and his law degree at Wake Forest University, Maurice practiced real estate law and finance for 25 years as a partner in the High Point firm Keziah, Gates and Samet. He founded MarketPlace Management in 1993, which owns and operates commercial properties throughout the Southeast. Among Maurice’s passions away from the racetrack is hunting and fishing, which has taken him to exotic destinations around the world.

Consequently, it was at a racetrack where Maurice and Laura first met. He was competing at Virginia International Raceway, where she had just begun a three-year stint as public relations and media director after a 14-year career in radio and television advertising with Raleigh-based Curtis Media Group.

Together, Maurice and Laura begin their seventh year as Silver Hare Racing co-owners in 2024. Their High Point-based team operates out of a former NASCAR Cup Series race shop and features a stable of high-powered TA2 cars available on an “arrive-and-drive” basis for veteran and up-and-coming racers alike. The team’s mission is to become the sport’s premier provider of racing services.

Also avid farmers, the Hulls own and operate Waukegan Farms in Caswell County, North Carolina, where they grow loblolly pine trees, grain crops and natural grasses. The more than 2,000-acre property, just up the road from the Union Ridge rural area where Laura grew up, is extensively managed for wildlife habitat and is part of the American Tree Farm System and certified by the Sustainable Forest Initiative. It was awarded North Carolina Tree Farm of the Year in 2011, and was named a North Carolina Stewardship Forest.

Through their Waukegan Farms brand, the Hulls own and breed championship American Quarter Horses, which are shown nationally by Laura, who has won World Championship titles in 2009 and 2021, an American Quarter Horse Congress Championship in 2022, and numerous regional and national futurity wins.

Gil Martin - Director of Competition

Veteran NASCAR crew chief Gil Martin joined Silver Hare Racing as its director of competition in 2022, overseeing all aspects of the team’s racing efforts. Martin has served as a crew chief for more than 650 NASCAR races dating back to 1992. He was the first crew chief to score wins in all three of NASCAR’s top national touring series – Cup, Xfinity and Camping World Truck. Of the Nashville native’s 16 NASCAR Cup Series victories as a crew chief, 13 came with Kevin Harvick. Martin also earned a win with Harvick in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Other drivers Martin helped steer to victory include Clint Bowyer, Robby Gordon, Jeff Burton, Kenny Wallace and Jeff Purvis.
