• 1st of two doubleheader weekends in 2020
  • Rafa Matos p2 in Race 1
  • Maurice Hull top 10 in Race 2

Due to the crazy world of 2020, the Trans Am schedule was revised mid-season with two double headers added to the year, Virginia International Raceway and Road Atlanta.   Many drivers and teams may see this as a difficult task, getting the cars “re-prepped” for a second 100-mile race less than 24 hours after the first 100-mile race; however, the Silver Hare family and both drivers were very excited about the opportunity.

Once again in 2020, practice was a bit damp – limiting the adjustments available prior to a wet qualifying session on Friday.   However, the weather didn’t slow down either of the Silver Hare drivers, with Rafa Matos once again lining up outside pole position.  When the green flew Rafa jumped to the lead and held the position for multiple laps – earning a valuable point in the championship hunt.   In the end Rafa would settle for P2 – the highest finishing full time driver – again earning valuable points over the championship contenders.    The second half the doubleheader wouldn’t go as planned though, as a mechanical failure at the start would bring Rafa to the garage for a few laps.  The Silver Hare family worked double-time to get the #7 Camaro back on track and Rafa would set one of the fastest laps of the race.   In the end Rafa protected his 3rd place status in the points – and is excited to head to Texas for the next round of Trans Am from the famous Circuit of the Americas, “COTA is very technical, perfect for these cars and my driving style, I can’t wait to get to Austin… this championship is far from over.”

On the other side of the garage, owner/driver Maurice Hull is in a heated battle for the TA2 Masters title.   Bringing home a top 10 in Race 2, and finishing p2 in masters in both races, Maurice was mathematically leading the masters points – however due to a 40 second penalty imposed on one of the top finishers in Race 2 – Maurice’s main competitor was moved up in the finishing order, and in the end the top 2 in Masters are now only TWO points apart!

The Title Chase is heating up in both TA2 and TA2 Masters, and Silver Hare is in the chase for double titles in 2020.   With four races remaining in the season, there are 140 points left on the table…  don’t miss a minute of Americas Road Racing Series
