Round 2 of the 2020 Trans Am by Pirelli Championship is in the books,
and the Silver Hare ZL1 Camaros proved to be extremely quick at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Choosing to sit out Friday practice due to a rain-soaked track, both Maurice Hull and Rafa Matos rolled out for Saturday qualifying with only a few laps during morning practice.  Showcasing the speed of the #7 Silver Hare Camaro, Rafa laid it down early – setting the fastest time on lap 4 – then spending the rest of the session watching from pit lane as the field attempted to best his 1:25.5 pole time.

“I am very happy with our qualifying strategy today. I was able to put a great lap together while on the sweet spot of the tires early in the session. I was surprised by the gap so we took the chance of sitting in the pits to see what was going to happen. Our one lap was good enough to get the pole position. This weekend is a bit of a redemption after missing the win after being so close here last year. We are sitting in the best place right now for the long race tomorrow. With tire management and being smart, I feel very confident going into it.”

Owner / Driver Maurice battled electrical issues all weekend, yet put the #57 Camaro top 3 in Masters.

“I am extremely proud of the Silver Hare Family, with Rafa on pole and me top 3 in Masters, everyone deserves a big thank you for the success.”

Throughout the weekend, the Silver Hare family worked tirelessly to fine tune the fire breathing beasts.

Rafa has a new fan…
Thanks for coming by Forky!

When the green flag flew, Rafa jumped out to an early lead – almost 6 seconds by lap 2!

However on lap 3 the steering got a bit heavy with a power steering pump failure.  Refusing to give up, Rafa kept wheeling the 2800 pound car around the 15-turn course for over 30 laps, keeping the #7 in the top 3, before further mechanical complications ended his day early.

With the same power steering part failure on the #57, the day also ended early for Maurice who was running 2nd place in Masters. Needless to say, Crew Chief Jeff Holley said “That’s the last time we run those parts – time to find a better source.”

Throughout the weekend, it was obvious both Silver Hare cars were bad fast.  Changing to a different company for power steering pumps for both cars immediately – Maurice and Rafa will be looking for redemption at Brainerd International Raceway in just two weeks.
