(High Point, NC) This July 4th weekend marked the NASCAR Cup Series’ first visit to Road America since 1956, with the Trans Am series national tour running as a companion event.  Silver Hare Racing fielded four TA2 entries and brought star power in Joe Gibbs Racing drivers Christopher Bell and Harrison Burton.  The two NASCAR regulars raced alongside regular Silver Hare teammates Tyler Kicera and Maurice Hull.

The team got off to a fast start in the first official practice with Kicera ending up third, Bell fifth, Burton seventeenth and Hull thirty-third on the charts.  The team struggled with the handling of their cars in qualifying and had to start the race deep in the field.  When the green flag dropped, Bell and Kicera quickly marched forward and drove into the top ten.  Kicera suffered an electrical issue that forced his retirement on lap six.  At around the halfway point of the race, Bell and Burton both suffered rear tire failures within four laps of one and other.  Maurice Hull, on the other hand, continued his march forward throughout the race and brought his number fifty-seven, Silver Hare Chevrolet Camaro, home in seventeenth place.

Reflecting on his race, Hull remarked, “I had a great race and battled with a number of different drivers throughout.  We ran under green from start to finish, which made the race even more intense.  We usually get a caution or two to catch our breath and regroup.  I have thank the whole Silver Hare crew and especially Davey (Weaver) and Jeff (Holley) for giving me a great car.”

The logistics involved in the summer stretch of events has been challenging.  The Silver Hare crew had been on the road for two weeks, preparing cars at Howe Racing Enterprises between Mid Ohio and Road America.   The Silver Hare haulers then made the nine-hundred-mile trip back to the team’s High Point, NC base for one week to prepare three cars for this week’s event in Brainerd, MN.  Silver Hare will field entries for Tyler Kicera, Michael Self and Maurice Hull.
